With the majestic Sandia Mountains rising to the east and the Rio Grande winding its way through the city, Albuquerque offers a variety of outdoor and cultural attractions. We headed out to Albuquerque and just missed out on the state’s biggest festival, the International Balloon Fiesta. Luckily, we found plenty to keep us busy, including checking out the newest hotel in the city, Hotel Parq Central. The hotel will have its official opening in November, but we decided to get a sneak peek. We already told you about the rooftop bar and its delish housemade chips, but we’ll give you the scoop on the rest of the hotel.
Check-In: We arrived a little before check-in time, but we were able to get a room. When we inquired about the gym, a staff member offered to give us a tour of the property. She told us that the hotel used to be a hospital and showed us around.

We love sidling up to the bar with a cocktail and munching on some nibbles—especially when they are free. But forget peanuts or some other trifling snack. We’re digging the complimentary spicy housemade potato chips at the new Hotel Parq Central’s Apothecary Lounge in Albuquerque.

You may be familiar with the Hotel Parq Central, a luxurious hotel built in 1926 and established in 2010. The owners have taken advantage of the economy to invest in this amazing property. The designer and owner turned to Hickory Chair for their rennovation. Working alongside of our craftsmen, designers and engineers, we created custom pieces for the hotel.
Their web site now shows the model room with each of the pieces that were selected for the rennovation. If you notice the secretary, you might recognize it as similar to the Hallings Secretary. This custom made version for the Hotel Parq Central. This custom version was made open and finished in a two-tone finish. It features a pull out shelf to use as a desk or as a nightstand.

The historic Memorial Hospital is soon to be boutique Hotel Parq Central. The renovation from the 1926 building, which was one of the first hospitals in the city built for the railroad, to the chic, modern hotel will be complete September 26. “We are definitely keeping the integrity of the building,” says Yancy Sturgeon, managing director. “Fifty percent of the hallways are still the hospital width, all the windows on the outside are restored with updated hardware and we’ve raised the roof.”
Hotel Parq Central To Open This Fall in Albuquerque
Just in time for the spectacular Albuquerque Balloon Festival, a new boutique property, Hotel Parq Central, will open this fall. The prime location, in the heart of trendy EDo (East of downtown) and on historic Route 66, is close to some of Albuquerque’s best restaurants and up-and-coming galleries. The 74-room hotel has been meticulously designed to reference the historic old Memorial Hospital that first opened in 1926 and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
The well-known site has long been a landmark of the city, and the entire building project was completed by in-state firms such as Studio Southwest Architects Inc., Klinger Constructors, and HVL Interiors as a way of keeping the community involved. The team worked creatively to ensure that the property retained and restored many of the unique original features while incorporating a modern sensibility and stylish amenities.
The front entrance’s “grand staircase” has been restored and the interior columns are finished with handmade New Mexico tile. A rooftop “Apothecary Lounge” with skyline and mountain views, and where guests can sip classic 1920s-themed cocktails and snack on tapas, showcases antique apothecary bottles and a wall decoupaged with vintage-era medicinal labels.
Original clay tiles have been used throughout the hotel and in the rooms (18 of which are suites), and the working features of the 1926-era windows were salvaged, including the frames, sashes, and jams as well as the decorative tile below.
The hotel features spacious conference rooms and a business center, an exercise room, massage services, LCD flat-screen TVs, and high quality linens and bath products.
True to its name, Hotel Parq Central makes room for three lushly landscaped gardens over a half acre of outdoor space, which will feature a deck, a hot tub, and a light-filled conservatory that opens onto an outdoor living plaza.
Starting rates will begin at $179/night and will include free parking, gourmet continental breakfast, free wireless Internet in public areas and in guestrooms, and complimentary coffee/tea service on each floor.
